Isarithmic maps are used when specific information about particular locations is needed. Common examples are maps of demographic data like population density
Chloropleth map
A choropleth map is a thematic map in which areas are shaded or patterned to shows the measurement of the variable being displayed on the map, such as per-capita income When mapping quantitative data, a specific color progression should be used to depict the data properly.
Proportional Symbol Map
In Proportional Symbol Mapping the cartographer selects a symbol form, and varies its size from place to place, in proportion to the quantities the symbol represents. The map reader forms a picture of the amount by comparing the different sizes of the symbols.
Dot Density Map
Dot density maps show geographic distribution. Dot density maps are particularly useful for understanding global distribution and comparing relative densities of different regions on the map.
